Let\u2019s talk about words. I love them. Use them all the time, as you can see right now.
\nBut\u2026.what about confusing words?
\nThose can sneak up on you when you\u2019re not expecting them.
\nAnd that\u2019s nasty. You want to say this word but you\u2019re not sure if you\u2019re saying it right.
\nRight?<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s tackle them here right now.
\nHere are 10 top tips to help you deal with confusing words in English.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The L in \u2018salmon\u2019 is silent.\u00a0It\u2019s pronounced \u2018SAM-in\u2019<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  2. The R in \u2018February\u2019 is silent. We say \u2018FEB-u-ary\u2019<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  3. A ‘REB-el’ is a person but to ‘reb-EL’ is a verb. Strange but true!<\/li>\n
  4. We don\u2019t say the P in \u2018cupboard\u2019. It\u2019s pronounced \u2018CUB-bird\u2019<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  5. Ironically, \u2018pronunciation\u2019 is one of the hardest words to say! It should sound like \u2018pro-nun-see-A-shun<\/em>\u2019.<\/li>\n
  6. It\u2019s 1 woman (\u2018WU-min\u2019<\/em>) but 2 women\u00a0(\u2018WI-min\u2019<\/em>). The spelling changes at the end of the word but the pronunciation changes at the front of the word! Crazy, right?<\/li>\n
  7. You never say the P in psychologist, psychiatrist, or psychic.<\/li>\n
  8. The \u2018ch\u2019 in all the words in #7 is pronounced like a K.<\/li>\n
  9. \u2018Clothes\u2019 is 1 syllable, not 2.<\/li>\n
  10. There is no \u2018table\u2019 in \u2018comfortable\u2019. It\u2019s pronounced \u2018CUM-fert-abul\u2019<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
