It\u2019s a win-win<\/strong>!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Here are 3 tips I\u2019d like to share with you:<\/p>\n

1.DITCH THE DOUBT:<\/strong>\u00a0If you are negotiating (or pitching, or presenting, or in a meeting) and you have doubts about your English, wondering if you are coming across professionally, hesitating about what you are saying, this could be interpreted as you having doubts about your business. This is of course not the case. Feeling confident, not only about your product or service, but your communication skills is KEY before you walk into that boardroom.<\/p>\n

2.SOFTNESS IS STRENGTH:<\/strong>\u00a0Softening \u2018bad\u2019 news creates an enormous ripple effect. Remember, in English (unlike Dutch, Spanish, German, Italian, French, etc) we do NOT have a formal or informal way of saying \u2018you\u2019. We use other words or phrases to express formality. One important way to show respect is to use \u2018softening\u2019 language. Starting a sentence with \u2018Unfortunately,\u2026\u2019 or \u2018I\u2019m afraid\u2026.\u2019 shows your counterpart that you are crafting a message with respect and want to soften the blow and stay professional.<\/p>\n

3.KEEP THE DOOR OPEN:<\/strong>\u00a0Temporary time indicators can make such a difference when you want to express that \u2018no\u2019 is short for \u2018no\u2026t right now\u2019. If appropriate, end your sentence with \u2018at this time\u2019 or \u2018this quarter\u2019. There\u2019s a big difference between \u2018We can\u2019t afford that\u2019 vs \u2018I\u2019m afraid that\u2019s beyond our budget for this quarter\u2019.<\/p>\n
