This is of course not the case. Feeling confident, not only about your product or service, but your communication skills is KEY before you walk into that boardroom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.SOFTNESS IS STRENGTH:<\/strong>\u00a0Softening \u2018bad\u2019 news creates an enormous ripple effect. Remember, in English (unlike Dutch, Spanish, German, Italian, French, etc) we do NOT have a formal or informal way of saying \u2018you\u2019. We use other words or phrases to express formality. One important way to show respect is to use \u2018softening\u2019 language. Starting a sentence with \u2018Unfortunately,\u2026\u2019 or \u2018I\u2019m afraid\u2026.\u2019 shows your counterpart that you are crafting a message with respect and want to soften the blow and stay professional.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.KEEP THE DOOR OPEN:<\/strong>\u00a0Temporary time indicators can make such a difference when you want to express that \u2018no\u2019 is short for \u2018no\u2026t right now\u2019. If appropriate, end your sentence with \u2018at this time\u2019 or \u2018this quarter\u2019.
