I hear them being used way too often and they have become so many people\u2019s \u2018go to\u2019 phrases, which undermines their credibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You deserve better.<br>These should be on your naughty list!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DOUBTING YOURSELF:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Am I making any sense?\u2019<br>\u2018Do you understand what I mean?\u2019<br>\u2018Is this remotely clear to anyone? Maybe I\u2019m not explaining it right.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAKING YOUR IDEAS SMALL:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve heard this already, but\u2026.\u2019<br>\u2018This might be old news, but\u2026\u2019<br>\u2018Hey, I\u2019m no expert here\u2026.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SHRINKING WORDS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I<strong> just<\/strong> wanted to ask\u2026.\u2019<br>\u2018I <strong>almost<\/strong> wanted to suggest\u2026.\u2019<br>\u2018It <strong>might<\/strong> be better to\u2026.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>APOLOGIZING:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I\u2019m sorry, but I just wanted to say\u2026\u2019<br>\u2018Sorry to bother you, but I\u2026.\u2019<br>\u2018Sorry if this sounds silly, but\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018EMOTIONAL\u2019 VERBS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I hope you understand what I\u2019m saying\u2026.\u2019<br>\u2018I think it might be better to\u2026.\u2019<br>\u2018I\u2019m not sure if you believe in this, but\u2026.\u2019<br>\u2018I hate to bother you, but\u2026.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How can you fix this? Here are some simple, actionable tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Speak in statements, and not in questions. You can check for agreement or understanding after you have made your point, not before you make it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assume that your counterpart is equal to you, not better, smarter, or higher up in the organization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stand your ground and speak your mind \u2013 concisely, with presence, and power.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Realize that you have ideas that are worth sharing without shame or hesitation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practise in front of a mirror to see if you are standing tall and strong!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019d like more tips, tools, and techniques, I welcome you to my free Communication Confidence webinar on May 9th!
