I do a lot of yoga <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-klhrljd-wtttrlhhi-e\/\">(click!<\/a>) so I folded myself up nice and tight and squeezed right in there! I\u2019m going to leave it with some fun treats today!<\/p>\n<p><strong>NEWS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had my first festival experience ever at Lowlands in the Netherlands. I got a little trashed (scroll down) because I had Mojitoes (scroll again) (actually, only 2 but boy were they great after a month of detoxing!), and there was magic in the air. One of the highlights was Ed Sheeran. I blogged about him and why his song \u2018The A Team\u2019 is a lyrical masterpiece. Check it out <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-klhrljd-wtttrlhhi-s\/\">hier<\/a>. Another highlight was seeing de Heideroosjes live. I\u2019ve been working for them for nearly a decade, and after 23 years of explosions, they\u2019ve decided to move on to other adventures. Marco, the singer, is featured in my online course. He\u2019s my chapter 15 and we discuss what it\u2019s like to tour all over the world with songs in English, Dutch, Limburgs, and German. Check it <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-klhrljd-wtttrlhhi-g\/\">hier<\/a><strong>! <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STOP DOING THIS AND I WILL LOVE YOU FOREVER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had a looong and lovely interview (will post it when it\u2019s published) and one of the questions was <strong>\u2018What\u2019s the biggest mistake people make when speaking English?\u2019 <\/strong>Actually, there are 2. One has to do with <strong>grammar<\/strong>, the other one with <strong>pronunciation<\/strong>. People confuse the \u2018was\u2019 with \u2018has been\u2019 a LOT. No need to. \u2018Was\u2019 is the <strong>Past Simple <\/strong>(Chapter 3 in my book and course). This is used for things that are over, finished, or history. Same goes for \u2018were\u2019. So, you\u2019d say \u2018I was there\/ We were there yesterday\u2019 (or \u2018last week, in 2010, or when I was a child\u2019, etc). \u2018Have\/has been\u2019 is for things that are not finished \u2013 the time is still going on. So you should say \u2018I have been there twice this year, this month, since Monday, etc.\u2019 (This form is the <strong>Present Perfect <\/strong>and is Chapter 5 in my book and online course).<\/p>\n<p>The second mistake people make the most is <strong>the TH sound<\/strong>. I hear waaaaaay too often things like \u2018my brudder finks dat de book you wrote was good\u2019. (Of course, there\u2019s no mistake here really, because the book I wrote WAS good!;)). Make sure you extend your tongue way beyond your front teeth to make the TH sound correctly. Go ahead. No one is looking. You might spit up on your keyboard but that\u2019s a GOOD THING. I am proud to have been spit on by so many awesome people. No D, F, or V when it comes to the TH. And did you know we actually have 2 kinds of TH sound? One is \u2018blown\u2019 \u2013 just a puff of air as you exhale \u2013 like in \u2018with\u2019, \u2018both\u2019, \u2018math, path\u2019. The other one is \u2018buzzed\u2019, where you use your voice as well. It\u2019s the sound in \u2018other\u2019, \u2018mother\u2019, \u2018rather\u2019 and \u2018brother\u2019. Good luck\u00a0 practicing! Now say this a zillion times fast <strong>\u2018Thank you for thinking that today was my 30th birthday!\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s actually my birthday <strong>tomorrow<\/strong>! I\u2019m going to hit the big 44 and I can\u2019t wait.
