Our talk was one big slice of crazy pie!<\/p>\n<p><strong>YOU WANNA BE WHAT?!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As you may or may not know, although many of my <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-kykjiht-wtttrlhhi-yd\/\">private clients<\/a> are very well known, and I love the view from the penthouse, I also love getting sweaty in the basement. That\u2019s why I work at 3 schools a week. I\u2019m very committed to education and dedicate half my week to the hundreds of students I\u2019m lucky enough to teach every year. One of them at one of my music colleges said to me in our first lesson &#8216;I want to be famous\u2019. Oh? I don\u2019t want you to be famous. I want you to be successful, but my definition of successful might differ from yours. <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-kykjiht-wtttrlhhi-yh\/\">Here\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0 a blog I wrote, with my 11 tips for being successful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>US or UK?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I get asked a lot about the difference between US and UK English. We are definitely two countries separated by a common <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-kykjiht-wtttrlhhi-yk\/\">language<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>There are many differences, but I&#8217;ll just highlight 2 of them today.<\/p>\n<p>Watch your spelling. This is British- colour, honour, labour. This is American \u2013 color, honor, labor. For more information on this, click <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-kykjiht-wtttrlhhi-yu\/\">hier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One other difference is that a Brit might say &#8216;<strong>I&#8217;ve just <\/strong>called him\u2019 (short for &#8216;I have just called him\u2019) and an American might say \u2018<strong>I just<\/strong> called him\u2019. We use the Past Simple (chapter 3 in Rock Your English!) slightly more than in British English, where the Present Perfect (chapter 5) would be used. One is not better than the other just be aware that there are slight differences. For more information on why, click <a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-kykjiht-wtttrlhhi-jl\/\">hier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Hey, Buffi, could you tell me why<strong> &#8216;I look forward to see you\u2019<\/strong> is wrong?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I can! Thanks for asking! First off, you can say either<strong> &#8216;I look forward to<\/strong>\u2026\u2019, which is slightly more formal, or \u2018<strong>I\u2019m looking forward to<\/strong>\u2026\u2019, which is slightly more informal in style. Both are good. However, after the \u2018to\u2019, you always need the <strong>verb+ing<\/strong>. So &#8216;<strong>I look forward to seeing you\u2019 <\/strong>is correct. I could tell you that this is because it\u2019s a prepositional object, but that\u2019s not very sexy. Just trust me.
