{"id":18612,"date":"2026-08-03T15:18:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T13:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/buffiduberman.com\/?p=18612"},"modified":"2026-07-27T15:24:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T13:24:16","slug":"if-you-dont-own-your-success-who-will","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buffiduberman.com\/nl\/if-you-dont-own-your-success-who-will\/","title":{"rendered":"If you don\u2019t own your success, who will?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s time to be proud!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DON\u2019T \u2018DO NORMAL\u2019 <\/strong><em>(and what is that anyway?)&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing that pops up a lot in my sessions is dismantling how people make their success smaller than it is. Often they don\u2019t dare to share their achievements for fear of being seen as arrogant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The culture in the Netherlands, where I am based, is rooted in a <em>&#8216;just be normal, don&#8217;t stick your neck out&#8217; <\/em>attitude. This is the \u2018polder\/consensus model\u2019 in action, and it works well domestically. Consider it a \u2018home game\u2019 when playing sports. <strong>You know the turf, and you have a local crowd.<\/strong> All good.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, when you have an <strong>\u2018away game\u2019 and are communicating on an international stage, the situation is shifted. In sports, you change your shirt, and in language, you change to English.<\/strong> This could also mean putting your track record more front and center, which you might not do at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Where I come from, we are (mostly) impressed and inspired by the success of others. Americans don\u2019t see it as threatening.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Success lifts other people up.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It makes us feel that <strong>anything is possible<\/strong>, and inspires others to <strong>chase their dreams.<\/strong><strong><em> <\/em><\/strong><em>\u2018If she can do it\u2026so can I!\u2019&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, some people still see success as a threat. They are jealous, or angry that this didn&#8217;t happen to them. The <em>\u2018afgunst\u2019<\/em> is real.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Has this happened to you? If so, consider it a natural filter. These people are not your people. Leave them behind. The people who are <strong>inspired by your track record<\/strong> are the people you need to surround yourself with.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Travel light, my friend. Onwards and upwards.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What are you proud of today?
