Oh, I know your secret \u2013 you must have been<a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-pyktkjt-wtttrlhhi-e\/\">\u00a0Prancercizing<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>I SURVIVED THE BATTLE OF THE NORTH<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I spent most of last week in the lovely city of Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands, for the incredible\u00a0<strong>Eurosonic\/Noorderslag music festival.<\/strong>\u00a0It\u2019s such a special place to be \u2013 not only because there\u2019s nearly\u00a0<strong>100 panels<\/strong>, seminars, and workshops during the day, but h<strong>undreds of established and emerging bands<\/strong>\u00a0from all over the world play all through the night. It\u2019s one of the few places where my worlds come together. I went to several panels during the day which focused on innovation in\u00a0<strong>music education<\/strong>, which inspired me to<strong>\u00a0think even more outside the box<\/strong>\u00a0to get my students (I call them my Hungry Heroes) even more charged up to share their gift with the world. I work hard to be a good teacher and meeting other dedicated teachers and<strong>\u00a0forward- thinkers\u00a0<\/strong>means so much to me. I spent evenings, nights, and mornings going to see my fabulous clients (like\u00a0<strong>Krystl, Sandra van Nieuwland<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Mister and Mississippi<\/strong>) blow their packed audiences away, and alternated this with showcases from my talented students (<strong>A Name for the Moon, Amenti,<\/strong>\u00a0en\u00a0<strong>the Doots<\/strong>) who left new audiences hungry for more. To me, I don\u2019t care if you\u2019re a famous rock star with a few sold-out tours under your belt, like Sharon from\u00a0<strong>Within Temptation<\/strong>, or someone like\u00a0<strong>Jasper Buiter<\/strong>, a gifted songwriter and my college music student learning the ropes and dazzling us along the way. When I see you on stage, covered in sweat,<strong>playing and singing your heart out<\/strong>, mine\u00a0<strong>bursts with pride<\/strong>. Somehow, no matter where I\u2019m standing, no matter how dark it is or how blinded you are by the spotlights,\u00a0<strong>our eyes find each other and lock<\/strong>. We share a\u00a0<strong>secret smile<\/strong>, and in an instant the\u00a0<strong>long and beautiful road<\/strong>\u00a0we\u2019ve travelled together plays back in my mind. Whether your song started in the\u00a0<strong>classroom<\/strong>, at my<strong>kitchen table<\/strong>, or du<strong>ring a Skype session<\/strong>, I was and will be with you every step of the way.<\/p>\n<p>When I\u00a0<strong>left my safe, well-paid job<\/strong>\u00a013 years ago to become Holland\u2019s\u00a0<strong>First Personal English Coach to Fabulous People<\/strong>, everyone laughed at me. I know in my heart of hearts that I made the<strong>best professional decision<\/strong>\u00a0of my life. I\u2019m thrilled to share moments like this with my students, my clients, and readers like you. Thank you for indulging my overwhelming feeling of\u00a0<strong>pride, joy, and deep gratitude<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Now back to business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EVEN THOUGH I WENT TO BED AT 5 AM I STILL MADE YOU THIS VIDEO<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I slept 16 hours in 4 days. Of this I am not ashamed. I am slightly ashamed of how my hair looks in this video, but hey, it\u2019s one of the small sacrifices I make to Save Your Ass in a Minute and a Half.<a href=\"http:\/\/email.elephantcs.nl\/t\/r-l-pyktkjt-wtttrlhhi-s\/\">Here it is!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>YOUR QUESTIONS \u2013 ANSWERED!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHey, B! What\u2019s up with\u00a0<strong>song titles in English<\/strong>? Do you need to capitalize\u00a0<strong>every word<\/strong>, or just the<strong>first word<\/strong>?\u00a0<strong>You crazy people<\/strong>!\u201d\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 from someone who will remain<strong>\u00a0anonymous<\/strong>, because he was asking me in a d<strong>ark smoky bar at 4 am<\/strong>\u00a0(that\u2019s when some of the\u00a0<strong>best conversations<\/strong>\u00a0take place).<\/p>\n<p>Actually,\u00a0<strong>neither<\/strong>. For titles of songs, movies, books, etc. the\u00a0<strong>first word<\/strong>\u00a0en\u00a0<strong>last word is always capitalized<\/strong>. So is every word\u00a0<strong>except articles<\/strong>\u00a0(a, an, the) and<strong>\u00a0some prepositions<\/strong>\u00a0(in, on, at). However, prepositions used in phrasal verbs are usually capitalized \u2013 like \u201c<strong>Hold On<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>Take Off<\/strong>\u201d or \u201c<strong>Look Away<\/strong>\u201d. Longer prepositions are also capitalized, like \u2018<strong>before<\/strong>\u2019 and \u2018<strong>after<\/strong>\u2019. Confusing, right? (<strong>Most things are confusing<\/strong>\u00a0at 4 am, anyway.)
