    \u201cHey, Buffi, when do I use \u2018for\u2019 and when do I use \u2018since\u2019?\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 from S, a student, last week.<\/p>\n

    Glad that you asked! Both \u2018for\u2019 and \u2018since\u2019 are used for activities that are still going on. For example, you can say \u201cI have worked there for 3 years\u201d or \u201cI have worked there since 2011.\u201d. You still work there for both situations, but they take different perspectives. We use \u2018for\u2019 to talk about the period of time an action has been going on, and it\u2019s usually followed by a number \u2013 for 3 years, 3 days, 3 minutes, 3 weeks, etc. \u2018Since\u2019 is used to talk about the day, date, or time the action started\u00a0 – since Monday, since I was a child, since I woke up this morning, since October 2nd<\/sup>, etc. Hope that helps!<\/p>\n
