I sure like Mondays!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why? Well, sweetie, there\u2019s lots of reasons. Every Monday morning, I see lots (loooots) of students at the Rockacademie. Every Monday I make pasta for my kids (and sneak in spinach \u2013 don\u2019t tell them!). Every Monday I go for a little run (I call it \u2018monumentenzorg\u2019 whenever I work out). And every Monday I am lucky enough to pop into your mailbox for a few minutes and call it my home. Thank you!<\/p>\n

Today I\u2019d like to cover a few things that have been bothering me. Recently I checked 85 exams (jealous, right?). Over half of them had silly, sloppy mistakes. I already have enough grey hair on my head, so I\u2019d like to clear up those silly mistakes once and for all. Right here, right now, so that you don\u2019t have to feel stupid for making them and I don\u2019t have to feel like a broken record telling you why they are wrong. Everybody wins!
\nLet\u2019s go! Here\u2019s my Top 5 Of The Week:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. WHERE, WERE and WE\u2019RE<\/strong>: WHERE has \u2018here\u2019 in it \u2013 it\u2019s a place. WERE \u2013 is past of \u2018are\u2019. WE\u2019RE is short for \u2018we are\u2019. Now go write a sentence using all three of them! (Don\u2019t write \u2018Where were the books we read yesterday, because we\u2019re in so much trouble if we don\u2019t bring them back to the library today!<\/em>\u201d because I just did).<\/li>\n
  2. TO, TOO, and TWO<\/strong>: TO \u2013 you can go to a place or give something to someone, and instead of saying \u2018also\u2019 you can say TOO (also when something is \u2018too much\u2019) and one plus one is\u2026wait for it\u2026TWO! Now try to use all 3 in a sentence. Here\u2019s one I made earlier\u2026\u2019Two guys went to the gym because they had gained too much weight, so I decided to go too<\/em>.\u2019<\/li>\n
  3. OF\/OFF<\/strong>: If I ever see \u2018Check out the making off our new video\u2019 again, I\u2019m going to scream. OF\u2013 use for connection (a friend of mine, made of glass, a part of it, etc) and OFF is the opposite of on, and usually used with verbs (turn the light off, take off your shoes, don\u2019t put off tomorrow what you could be doing today). Try both in a sentence? Yes! \u2018Cinderella had to take off her shoes because they were made of glass<\/em>.\u2019 (We all know what happens next, right?)<\/li>\n
  4. AFFECT\/EFFECT<\/strong>: They sound pretty much the same, so I understands the confusion, so I\u2019ll try to keep this one simple. AFFECT is a verb \u2013 it\u2019s used as an action. Do you see a pattern here? A\u2026.ffect is an a\u2026..ction. It\u2019s used in ways like \u2018How did the rainfall affect your crops this year<\/em>?\u2019 or \u2018She wasn\u2019t affected by his lame attempt to serenade her by singing 1Direction ballads outside her window\u2019<\/em>. EFFECT is a noun. It\u2019s used with \u2018a\u2019, \u2018an\u2019, and \u2018the\u2019. Can you use both? In one single sentence? Sure you can! Like\u2026\u2019The effect of his horribly cheap cologne did not seem to affect his fellow elevator passengers.<\/em>\u2019 Now you try!<\/li>\n
  5. BORROW\/LEND<\/strong>: If I have something you want, let\u2019s say a shiny new eyebrow tweezer, and you\u2019d really like to use it (and give it back..promise!), then I would LEND it to you, and you would BORROW it from me. A nifty trick to remember this one? When you borrow, you bring it back. Think B and you can\u2019t go wrong! J<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
