3 Magic Moments (and why your presentation needs them)

Thank you so much for letting me slip into your inbox this morning. I really love it here. I love it so much that I want to say this to all of you!

And doesn’t it feel great to feel appreciated? This is something that so many of us forget. This is such a shame, because it’s so easy to fix! Making people feel valued is an important part of having good communication. So why do we all seem to forget this when giving a presentation?

As an official presentation coach for politicians, artists, CEOs and TED speakers, I help my clients create and maintain a real connection with their audience throughout their presentation. Making your audience feel comfortable, welcome, and valued is an important part of this.

I feel that a good (no, a GREAT) presentation has 3 Magic Thank You Moments. 3 tiny moments; 3 simple sentences that have a big impact. This is where they come in when you’re giving a presentation:

1. The first Magic Thank You Moment starts when you start. It should be one of the first things you say. “Thank you so much for coming, I’m so happy to be here!” is  a great way to break the ice,  get the ball rolling and show how excited you are to share your story.

2. The second Magic Thank You Moment should be at the end of your presentation, after your conclusion, but before you open the floor to questions. “Thank you ladies and gentlemen, that’s the end of my talk, but now it’s your turn. I’d love to hear your questions. Who would like to start?” This is a great way to say that you’ve finished and pass the proverbial talking stick to them.

3. The final Magic Thank You Moment is your final goodbye. After you’ve answered the questions, but before you leave the stage, thank your audience once again for asking such sharp questions and spending part of their day with you. People will leave with a sense of feeling appreciated; that someone realised that they all had other things to do and chose to spend part of their busy day with you. People will remember you not only as a knowledgable specialist in what you just talked about, but also as a Kind Person. And that’s a Very Good Thing.

I hope that these 3 MTYMs will help you rock your next presentation! It does make a big difference. Try it and let me know how it goes! Always so happy to hear from you!
