My recommendations!
I’m an avid reader. I read between 2 and 3 books a month. So many people have asked me for some great reading tips, and I’m so happy to share a few gems with you here!
📚BIOGRAPHIES: I love reading honest accounts of flawed people. (Which we ALL are.)
Christina Applegate-She’s a better writer than you might think, and she discusses her struggles with MS, combined with growing up in the spotlight.
Rick Astley – so humble, so self-depreciating, and explains how he got rickrolled himself!
Lena Dunham – a fan from the first episode of Girls. So honest, in your face, and zero f*cks given. Her health journey is raw and compelling.
Lindy West – she’s sassy (read Shrill), and honest, and tries to save her sanity (and her marriage) on a road trip.
Belle Burden -unsettling true story of the demise of a semi-socialite’s marriage, soon to be a movie – can’t wait!
Jerry Seinfeld – always.
Chelsea Handler – also always.
Ina Gartner – loves her husband as much as she loves cooking – inspired by both!
Nobody’s Girl – the tragic story of Virginia Giuffre and the evil known as Epstein (and Prince Andrew, among others)
which led me to…
Entitled – In-depth bio of Andrew and Fergie. It’s very juicy and changed my perception of these two!
📚GREAT READS
David Sedaris – I will read anything this man does, over and over again. Hilarious and astute. If you can see him live, GO.
Ocean Vuong – the best writer I’ve come across in a decade. He threads words on a golden thread. Every sentence is curated and deliberate. Can’t get enough. Moved to tears often.
Matt Haig – brutal and very moving.
📚HELPFUL READS:
How to Break Up With Your Phone – your phone is a toxic boyfriend, and this is how you end it. Really helped me a lot. It’s time to go to the bathroom without your toxic boyfriend. Because….you really need a reason for this one? That says enough.
Careless People: (not pictured, I read the physical book) by Sarah Wynn Willams – Facebook from the inside out from one of the women who was there early on. It changed how I see (and use!) this addictive and manipulative platform. Wow. Real eye-opener.
The Let Them Theory – Not your circus, not your monkeys. That’s it in a nutshell. Loved it!
📚DID NOT LOVE
Flesh and The Bee Sting – both highly acclaimed, and I got through them, but not a huge fan. Same goes for Sally Rooney. Can’t quite figure out what the hype is all about.
📚BIG READ AND WORTH IT
The Overstory – 500+ pages, did not read it in a week, but I loved this book so much and will read again. Trees are our teachers, but not everyone knows that.
📚JUST ONE MORE…
You Are The Best Thing That Has Ever Happened To You – 26 chapters on how to live lighter and brighter. Also available in Dutch. It’s helped thousands own their day and shift their perspective. It was an honor to write. 🙂
Happy reading!
Love, Buffi
