NEWS

I was a guest on DJ Ratz’s KX Radio show, doing my lyrical analysis shizzle – talking about English lyrics and what they really mean. If you missed it, check it here

I was also a very proud teacher attending the graduation ceremony of my students at Albeda College in Rotterdam. Well done, all! I love working with emerging talent and seeing them develop over the years. So rewarding!

I had a few more interviews, but I’ll keep you in suspense until they are posted. 😉

GRAMMAR – Your Questions Answered

“What’s the difference between ‘for’ and ‘since’?”

Good question! They are both used to talk about things that are still happening, but have a different perspective – both “I have worked here for 3 years”, and “I have worked here since 2009” are correct. For is used for a period of time (for 3 days, weeks, months, years, etc) and since tells us when the action started (since Monday, since I was a child, since April, etc.). If you’d like to practise this more, check out chapter 5 in Rock Your English!

PRONUNCIATION – Tongue Twister Time!

The ‘ths’ sound is one of the hardest to make in English. You need to stick out your tongue all the way out to make the ‘th’ sound and then slide it back in quickly to get to the ‘s’ sound. Can you say these without spitting on someone?

  • The sloths thanked the moths for the bath filled with broth.
  • Their clothes were thought to be thrown from cloths that others threatened to thread.

Here’s a video (in Dutch) of me explaining more about the TH sound and vocabulary development for artists and other interesting creatures. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv-VrStzoFQ
