This 85% rule…and why it’s a gamechanger!

Happy Monday!

Can you believe we are already halfway through month 7 of this year?
It’s just flying by!

You may or may not know, but I devour podcasts. I listen to them all the time. If I’m out for a walk or a run, or just cleaning the house, I am doing it while learning something new through podcasts.

Last week I listened to one of my favorites – it was Tim Ferriss (the brilliant author of ‘The 4-Hour Workweek’ and much more!) who was interviewing Hugh Jackman for his podcast. You might know Hugh Jackman as Mr Wolverine. I knew he had killer abs, but I did not know how evolved Hugh was, spiritually. It was a wonderful dialogue on meditation, literature, commitment, love, and so much more. And then Hugh explained the 85% rule and I literally stopped in my tracks as I was mesmerized by what he was saying.

This is what he said:

‘If you tell most of A-type athletes to run at their 85% capacity, they will run faster than if you tell them to run at 100%, because it’s more about relaxation, and form, and optimizing the muscles in the right way.’

He then went on to tell that those who work at 85% of their potential actually do better because there is much less stress involved, and people are much more relaxed. More in the flow. More focussed, and in the moment.

Stress kills productivity.
Stress kills performance.

Keep that in mind the next time you have to do something. Focus on NOT giving it 100%. No pressure. No worries. No sky-high expectations. 85% is absolutely enough. This was a huge gamechanger for me.

I’ve been doing this myself now for a week, and am loving the difference!

Some of you get stressed when it comes to English communication.
You want to give it 100%.
But it’s hard.
You can’t find the right words.
You’re using the same words over and over again.
You’re not sure if you’re saying it right, and you have doubts about the grammar.
You feel less intelligent in English than in your own language.

I get it.
And I can help you make it so much better.
Starting today!
Why today?
Well… today I am opening the doors to my new coaching program, Great in 8!

Great in 8 is an 8-week program where I work with a small, highly-motivated group on developing your confidence and skill set in English. New challenges, feedback, and assignments every week + an exclusive (and safe!) masterclass day + my online Business English Communication Course + a small, supportive group = you will go SO FAR in English and really enjoy the journey.

I only do Great in 8 twice a year. I have room for 10 clients and we start in September.

But…does it work? Can you really have breakthroughs in just 8 weeks? Let’s see….

This is what the Great in 8 Graduates said upon completing the last program, in April of this year:

‘Great in 8 has opened my eyes on several subjects- sometimes when I thought I was being very polite and understanding, it appeared to be quite the opposite! I had no idea! Thank you Buffi!’ – Kia, lawyer

‘I saw a real difference when I started to use synonyms/different styles in emails and during meetings.
I am very, very, very motivated in English now. The switch has been switched on and will be hard to switch off again.
Great in 8 is the best English course I have ever participated in! –
Angelique, social entrepreneur

‘I had a true breakthrough in week 7 of coaching. Buffi showed me that my perfection was stopping me from real communication. I was so focused on not making any mistakes which meant I could not communicate and now I let that go thanks to Buffi’s humor and energy. Now I am free to talk to anyone!’ I feel unstoppable!’  – Peter, coach

How does this sound? Are you ready to break borders, both professionally and personally?
To join me for an 8-week learning journey?
I’m here for you.
All 85% of me.
