The Olympics and presentations – how to bring home the gold

5 top tips from a high-performance coach

THE OLYMPICS AND PRESENTATIONS – BRING HOME THE GOLD!🥇

I love watching the Olympics. As a high-performance coach, it’s always inspiring to see how the athletes prepare. How they set themselves up for success.

Guess what?

You can do the same when it comes to presentations.

Here are my Top 5 Tips for bringing home the GOLD for your next talk.

1.       🥇  PLANT THE RIGHT SEEDS: Your message starts in your mind, not your mouth. Every time you THINK about that presentation, you are planting the seeds for success or failure. Are you feeling great about it or dreading it? Plant the right seeds and reap the benefits later.

2.       🥇 VISUALIZE: You can see so many athletes mapping out their moves before they do it. They visualize the path they will take before they take it. Visualize yourself walking onto that stage or into that boardroom with people who are excited to see you. Think of standing there with joy and confidence. Then make it happen. Believing is seeing.

3.       🥇 PEP TALK: Your body has the same physical reaction to being nervous or being excited. You start perspiring, get a dry mouth, and start shaking. This is the same for something exciting (like before you ask someone to marry you, or when you win the lottery) or scary (like before skiing down a steep mountain or speaking in the spotlight). Tell yourself you are EXCITED instead of NERVOUS. It really makes a difference.

4.       🥇 KINDNESS, ALWAYS: This means congratulating people who did better than you did. This means learning from them and figuring out how they got to be so good at what they do. Being genuinely happy for the success of others. And ‘kindness, always’ means being kind to yourself. No matter what. Medals will come and go, but you have to live with yourself for the rest of your life. Make it the healthiest and happiest relationship you have.

5.        🥇ASK FOR HELP: I’m honored to coach so many high-performance people. And yes, some of them are elite athletes who have brought home the gold in many ways. Remember, you can’t do it all on your own. Ask for help. Find someone who can objectively see what needs to be developed and improved, and work on it together. Have fun. Learn. Try. Fail. Learn again. Together.

I hope this helps YOU bring home the gold the next time you have to speak up and show up.

Love,

Buffi
