BOOKENDS are your FRIENDS

Here’s why!

Ever heard of the concept of bookending your talk?

This is a concept I use all the time with my coaching, but many people are unfamiliar with it, so I thought I’d share it with you today because it’s SO effective!

CONNECT THE START TO THE END ✅

Start your talk with a trigger question, a problem that people are experiencing, or a shocking or surprising fact or statistic. Then you give your talk, going through all the natural elements you’d like to cover. Then you end your talk by referring back to the start. You can tie up the loose ends this way – by solving that problem, referring back to those statistics, resolving that conflict, etc.

This effective technique creates a feeling of CLOSURE in your audience, and brings your talk to a full circle moment. Remember, you are the tour guide, and it’s your job to tell them when the tour is done. I never want you to end your talk with a shrug and ‘Well, I guess that’s it…’. What a letdown! You can do better. And your audience deserves to hear that.

HONOR YOUR AUDIENCE ⏱️

Remember, your talk is never really about you. It’s about the knowledge you are sharing. Honor your audience for thanking them for their valuable time and attention. A little gratitude goes a long way.

What is your next talk going to be about? Are you excited about it?
