Sweet, darling, delicous you, how is this lovely Monday treating you? Is it treating you like the awesome person you truly are? I hope you realize how lovely and special you are. You are. You’reprecious!
NEARLY THERE! OOH SO EXCITING!!
As I write, I’m thrilled to say that we are only 274 (274!!!) euros away from hitting 100% in my book funding goal! With your help we can make it happen this week! If you have already invested, thank you so much! ’30 Ways To Save Your Ass In English’ can be pre-ordered for just 10 euros, including shipping. If you’d like a book, my dirty bookmark, or a ticket to our fabulous launch party featuring Eric Corton, Hadewych Minis, Sharon Doorson, Adriaan Persons, Mister and Mississippi, Sunday Sun, a balladeer and Charlie Dee on October 22, click here! I really and truly appreciate your support! THANK YOU!
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU FELT GOOD ABOUT SOMETHING?
When was the last time you felt really confident about your English? That your communication skills were professional, that your presentation rocked, that your lyrics really expressed what your soul intended and your pronunciation was natural, accurate, and confident? I know people don’t have a lot of time. I know people don’t have a lot of money. That’s why I have 2 personal coaching days where I work with you 1 on 1 to get the most out of your English. 1 hour, 100 euros, just you and me (or bring a friend or two, I can see up to 4 people per session!). 23 and 30 August, in Den Bosch. Spaces are going fast! Click here– I’d love to work with you!
MY DAD ROCKS!
My crazy dad entered a KLM contest where he had to film himself saying the name of the airline in Dutch. My dad’s from Brooklyn. He doesn’t speak Dutch. Watch and giggle here! (Unfortunately he didn’t make the deadline because he didn’t know how to upload it, but you can show him some love by liking it if you want to!) Obviously shame does not run in my family.
LOST IN TRANSLATION. REALLY REALLY LOST.
My friend Sarah sent this to me – it’s so funny I had to share it with you! Funny Chinese signs – anyone up for some Soup For Sluts later for lunch?
YOUR QUESTIONS – ANSWERED!
“Hey Buffi, I was wondering if “I’ve lived there since 2 years” is right? I heard someone say that and it sounds weird. Thanks!” – from J, via email (info@rockyourenglish.com).
Well, Mr J, thanks for keeping your antennae up and out for good English! Actually, you were right to ask. This doesn’t sound right because it’s not! We never use ‘since’ with a period of time. We use ‘since’ with the day, date, or time an action started, and we always use it for actions that are still going on. So you should say ‘I have lived there since 2011.’ You can use ‘for’ for periods of time – ‘I have lived there for 2 years.’
Hope that helps!
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END
Like vacations, and sunsets, and cocktails, and hugs, and rainbows, and….oy, I better stop while I’m ahead. I look forward to popping into your inbox next week – thank you so much for letting me slip in this week! Sending you a cruise ship full of your favorite people, the most amazing food and drinks you could ever imagine, and a very dapper captain who sits next to you at dinner after dancing with you on the Lido deck….in my head.
