MY DAD ROCKS!

My crazy dad entered a KLM contest where he had to film himself saying the name of the airline in Dutch. My dad’s from Brooklyn. He doesn’t speak Dutch. Watch and giggle here! (Unfortunately he didn’t make the deadline because he didn’t know how to upload it, but you can show him some love by liking it if you want to!) Obviously shame does not run in my family.

Well, Mr J, thanks for keeping your antennae up and out for good English! Actually, you were right to ask. This doesn’t sound right because it’s not! We never use ‘since’ with a period of time. We use ‘since’ with the day, date, or time an action started, and we always use it for actions that are still going on. So you should say ‘I have lived there since 2011.’ You can use ‘for’ for periods of time – ‘I have lived there for 2 years.’
